Sophie Halperin, the current Emery Booster Club (EBC) president, has been a part of EBC since her freshman year in high school, strictly a club member attending poster-making meetings and other small ways to become involved.

Emery Booster Club, also known as EBC, is dedicated to strengthening our school’s spirit while uplifting and emphasizing the power of the student body’s interconnectedness. With the help of Halperin, EBC takes part in many school events. Most notably, preparing the annual homecoming events, fun programs with Blue Mondays, and bolstering attendance at sports games and musical performances.

Once a 10th grader, Sophie was eligible to run for a board position; looking back, Sophie advises freshman and incoming high schoolers not to “be scared or intimidated to get involved, try new things, and make a name for yourself.” As a Blue Monday Officer that school year, Sophie enjoyed “coming up with unique ideas to entertain the school in between their harsch schedules,” which, noticing tangible success, inspired her to run again during her 11th-grade year as Spirit Officer. This role grew her love for “attending games and showing support for our student-athletes.”  Withholding this new integral position, Sophie was no longer a young, inexperienced high schooler and truly “felt like a leader while doing something she enjoyed.”

It is now her senior year, and the EBC board is incredibly lucky to be led by Sophie, who “is always wanting to help her board and goes out of her way to make sure we all feel supported,” said EBC board Blue Monday Officer, Juliette Hess. Sophie has left a positive impact on the club with her true devotion to improving Emery’s spirit. Halperin advises, “Leadership means being a role model that people can admire and look up to. Make leadership your own and personalize it.”
