On an electrifying night with energy and talent, We The Best Music (WTBM) soared above the rest, leaving a lasting mark with their entrancing rendition of Rihanna and DJ Khaled’s chart-topping anthem, “Wild Thoughts.” Comprised of juniors Harper Scheinman, Gordon Robinson, Dawson Tiras, Jacob Akalou, Mayer Levit, and Caymus Cooper, the ensemble poured countless hours into honing their choreography and harmonizing their vocals in preparation for Emery/Weiner’s esteemed Spring Fest. For WTBM, this wasn’t just another performance—it was their moment to seize the spotlight.
The anticipation swelled as WTBM stepped onto the Arbor stage in matching white shirts, a visual testament to their unity and preparation. “I had observed all week how hard the group had been preparing, and when I saw them confidently step out onto that stage, I knew they would be a smash hit,” stated junior student and groupie Raya Weinstock. And indeed, as the opening notes reverberated through the air, it was clear the group’s dedication had paid off. Each member seamlessly complemented the other, harmonizing to create a perfect symphony. However, while this performance seemed effortless, the group did not just form overnight; it took deliberate communication and a beautiful bond between friends.
When questioned on how the group came to be, member Caymus Cooper explains, “We’ve had the idea of forming this group for a while, and with Spring Fest approaching, we sent out a group message, setting our plan for excellence in motion.” While the group had never performed together before, they were not without experience. Jacob Akalou, affectionately known as “J-Screw,” brought his unique style to the stage, his past as a budding rapper adding depth and dynamism to the performance. “My experience helped me guide my fellow members, easing their nerves and keeping myself calm and confident before the show,” Akalou details.
This confidence and camaraderie define WTBM’s collective spirit. As the final chords echoed into the night, WTBM found themselves enveloped in thunderous applause and adulation. The audience rose to their feet, offering the group a standing ovation that echoed the sentiments of awe and appreciation. For those fortunate enough to witness it, We The Best Music’s electrifying performance was an imprinting moment on the Emery community, a true testament to passion, dedication, and the unbreakable bond of friendship.
