In a shocking twist, star football player Brandon Sorkin has hung up his cleats and laced up his dancing shoes to take on an important role in the school’s production of “Footloose.” The known athletic talent and one of many leaders on the field has jumped into the performing arts, which has gained the attention of students, faculty, and the community alike.
Set in the small town of Bomont, “Footloose” is a story about a teenager named Ren McCormack who moves to a city that has outlawed dancing.
“I’ve always loved performing. I did a lot of plays as a kid, but as I got older sports took a president over theater in my life,” Sorkin said during a recent interview. “When I was asked to step in to help with some difficult dancing stunts, I was hesitant, but I don’t regret a single thing. It’s just been such a great experience so far.”
“It’s definitely outside my comfort zone,” he said with a grin. “But the support from my fellow cast members has made all the difference.
As the curtain rises on “Footloose,” one thing is clear: Brandon Sorkin shows that talent has no bounds and encourages his peers to show and embrace their passions, no matter how unexpected they might be. Leading by example — both on the field and on the stage — Sorkin proves that true greatness comes from stepping out of one’s comfort zone.
