Starting Monday, Nov. 18, seniors get to experience one of the most anticipated perks of their final year — off campus lunch privileges. Designed to give students a balance of academic commitment and a touch of freedom, these privileges feel like a milestone for many. According to the school handbook, they are a reward for seniors who meet specific academic, behavioral, and attendance standards.
To participate, students must meet the eligibility criteria outlined in the school handbook, including strong academics, good behavior, and consistent attendance. Those approved can leave campus during lunch with the option to extend their break if their study hall falls before or after the lunch period. Seniors will be given fobs with access to Entrance 1, AKA the POG Gate.
Senior off campus lunch privileges represent a mutual trust between the students and administration. And that trust comes with accountability as administration can revoke these privileges if students do not adhere to the rules, specifically regarding timely arrival back to campus.
For many, these privileges provide a chance to recharge amidst a busy school day. “Having an hour and 45 minutes off-campus when I have a study hall before or after lunch is a game-changer,” said senior Kyle Beinart. “Sometimes, I just need a quick nap at home to keep going.”
Others, like senior Jenna Weitz, use this freedom to grab a midday pick-me-up. “It’s really nice to get out for a bit. A coffee run to Starbucks or Dunkin’ is sometimes exactly what I depend on to get through the day.”
Beyond personal breaks, seniors are eager to spend time off campus with friends. “I’m looking forward to getting Canes with the boys,” shared senior Bennett Grossman. “Sometimes a box combo with the boys is all you need.”
After surveying many members of the senior class, it became apparent that Chick-fil-A, Chipotle, and Raising Cane’s will be the most common lunch spots. With only 50 minutes to leave and return to campus, these quick-service restaurants offer the convenience seniors need to make it back in time.
Whether it is an outing to their favorite restaurants with friends or a quick coffee run, lunch privileges provide seniors with a taste of independence, a chance to recharge, and an opportunity to savor memories as they embrace their senior year.
